My girls requested a Saturday night dinner, so off we went to Tánsuŏ on 12th Ave N. Two out of four had been before, whereas two were fresh to the experience. My second visit was just as nice as the first, especially as I had the opportunity to sample multiple new dishes.

Our party ordered the following mains: Kung Pao Cauliflower, Shanghai Red Pork Shank, Hong Kong Style Cumin Short Rib. We also ordered the Wok Blistered Shishito Peppers as a vegetable. These choices were all delicious, packing a flavorful punch in each bite. Nothing was overly spicy or bland. This notion of flavor in each bite is what you strive for in a menu.

Our server was attentive and sweet, yet kept referring to each of us as "babe," which I didn't love. Her suggestions needed a little work, but that didn't alter our food quality. We asked her to split the bill and she portrayed a very inconvenienced air because of it. If she had to do it by hand, I'd empathize, but luckily she has a handy dandy computer to do the hard work for her.

The complimentary valet is always appreciated, especially on this colder evening. Tánsuŏ is located across the street from the event venue, 12th and Porter. We were leaving the meal to see a line of youths around the building. Upon inquiry, the valet expressed that the event was a "Welcome to the Jungle" theme. The youths interpreted this as an occasion to wear shorts and crop tops in the dead of winter. I don't use the term youths lightly here. They were in high school, which was confirmed by the police officer trying to settle them down before entering the venue. He screamed the following into a megaphone, "I know some of you are under 18 and you are illegally smoking a nicotine product in the line." The four of us girls were cracking up because they looked so silly. We were trying to empathize by recalling an event where we didn't want to wear a coat either, but luckily we were in our teens before spandex crop tops and high-waisted short shorts were popular.

Tánsuŏ: 5/5
